As referenced two weeks ago, Ida was the wife of my last blogged celebrity. Starting
as a girl ‘mail-room
boy’ at
Acme News, she was self-taught, graduating from Brownie to Graphic to Rollei. Documentary photography finding outlets in
Business Week, Life, Fortune, Colliers. A
member of the Photo League in 1946. Images
mainly depicting social life on the streets of New York City - Harlem, Chinatown, lower Manhattan and the Bronx.
Her images reside at: MOMA, the Museum of the City of New York; Museum of Art, Columbus; Museum of Contemporary Art, Madison; Museum of Art, San Jose; and several others. She has been recognized as one of the top 50 female photographers of the past half century. 87 and still active, living in Wisconsin. Bill
